My Ultimate 'Sob Song' Playlist

The Scientist- Cold Play

One of my favorite 'tear extractors', Cold play's, "the scientist" is bound to force you to stare at the ceiling and shed a few wet ones. Oh, and if your feeling like a full out weep-fest, watch the music video!

Meadowlarks- Fleetfoxes

The folkie mountain men of the "Fleet foxes" always put a nice earthy twist on the classic sob genre. For me, the fleet foxes always remind me of a specific season of the year, and this one just happens to remind me of autumn... The season of death

Detlef Schrempf- Band of Horses

I have no idea what the title of this song says, means or how to properly pronounce it, but boy it gives me the chills every time I listen. A lot of sob songs lose their power and ability to depress over time, but this one never seems to quit kickin' my emotions around.

Give Up the Ghost- Radiohead

Radiohead is a bit of a newer band to me, I have just started listening to them within the last month. Give up the ghost was the first song I heard by them during an episode of "World Stage" on Palladia and boy, it did not disappoint.

A Hawaiian Like Me- Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole

Short and sweet, this song really hits home with me. Being from Hawaii, I have always been an avid Hawaiian music and "Iz" listener. Known Mostly for his hit re-creation of "somewhere over the rainbow", Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole was a true pioneer in Hawaiian music with his jaw dropping ukulele skills, unheard of by most, and his supple-caressing voice that could break down even the toughest of men. This was also the song played at my father's funeral...

Be Here Now- Ray Lamontagne

Old raspy Ray Lamontagne and his quiet but powerful piece "Be Here Now" has always been a tear jerker for me. I have found that the combination of his rustic voice and subtle, but very moving acoustic guitar accompaniment throughout all his songs, is the ideal recipe for tears and deep thought.

9 Crimes- Damien Rice

Ah, the beauty of pandora! While writing this hub, I was listening to my Ray Lamontagne Pandora playlist and this song came up that I've never heard by Damien Rice ... and I just had to add it to the list. Fantastic song

Younger Than Today- Ben Harper

One of the purest, most powerful and soulful voices on the face of the earth, Ben Harper has been one of my favorites for years. The mixture of the simple but moving piano piece, and his "smooth as butter" voice is like warmth in the cold every time i listen to it. Instant Classic!

Who's Gonna Save My Soul?- Gnarls Barkley

Gnarls Barkley (Cee Lo Green) puts a buttery-soulful twist on the ultimate breakup song. I like the abbey road session version but if your in the mood for the most impressive, and rather repulsive, representation of a human heart singing the song, check out the music video.

Hallelujah- Various Artists

Classic. That's all there is to be said about this song. Enjoy

Isreal's voice alone is enough to make someone sob :(

I love your playlist. However, what I was going to write got stage-napped by the Hallelujah artists. At this moment I am listening to my personal favourite from Alexander Burke - she has a great voice that she can raise to touch us: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aplWTXEcY70&ob=av2n
